Parent Engagement Program Evaluation

  • Policy question: What is the impact of a parenting intervention focused on building pre-K skills for three-year-olds on school readiness? Can this program be implemented successfully at scale in a public school district?
  • Methodology: A randomized controlled trial of JumpStart, tracking the program’s impact among ~900 three-year-olds from 2015-2019.
  • Results and impact: We found that the program impacted parental investments and child development as measured by two different school readiness tests. This work led to funding changes for the program, enabling the district to utilize federal funds for JumpStart, freeing up individual campus budgets while demonstrating to families the value of their participation. Research also informed curriculum improvements and better targeting of services.
