Texas Child Care Availability Portal Project

TWC recently launched an online portal to enable families to find child care near their home or work in Texas and enable child care providers to post available openings.  This resource was especially critical for essential workers amid COVID-19. TWC was eager to collect feedback on improving its usability and effectiveness by gathering feedback from child care providers.

  • Policy question:How can the Texas Child Care Availability Portal be improved to increase the number of child care providers that regularly participate and update their data?
  • Our services: TPL designed, tested, and conducted a phone interview to gather feedback from a targeted and diverse group of ~80 child care providers across Texas.  We analyzed the data and reported both quantitative and qualitative synthesis of findings.
  • Results and impact:TWC leaders use interview findings to inform the next phase of improvements for Texas’ child care portal.
